Our Story
Our story began in February 2019 on a motorcycle day trip to visit the recently completed Bogibeel (Bogibil) Bridge in Dibrugarh, Assam. Bumoni (Dhiraj Bikash) Gogoi and Carol Weiss Pouchol traveled to cross the bridge and to have lunch at a nearby eco resort. While sitting on the banks of the Brahmaputra River we were struck by the sight of idle boats.
Prior to the opening of the Bogibeel Bridge, joining the districts of Dibrugarh and Dhemaji on opposite sides of the Brahmaputra River, river boats transported people and cars from one bank to the other. While opening Upper Assam to vast potential for economic growth, the bridge also caused collateral hardship to the boat owners and workers who lost their primary source of income. We realized that we could, in a small way, alleviate the financial hardship of some of the workers by purchasing one of the boats and refurbishing it to create a cruise boat.
We co-founded ABCD Exploration in August 2019; Bumoni Gogoi as managing director / owner and Carol Weiss Pouchol as advisor / philanthropist. We remain committed to showcasing Assamese culture and to improving livelihoods in Northeast India to the best of our capabilities through tourism.
